Edinburgh University Gliding Club
Edinburgh
University Gliding Club was formed in 1958, by Ron Kille, a lecturer in
Zoology at the University and has flown at Portmoak since then. He raised the
money, and in the early days the club had an Eagle and an Olympus 2B. Through
its association with the SGC, members of the EUGC have access to all of the
club's facilities. During 'Freshers' week' the EUGC provides a first experience
of gliding to many intrepid university students and nearly every weekend during
the year as well as during various holidays members of the EUGC can be found at
Portmoak flying their well-known yellow gliders.
Numerous EUGC members have managed to achieve solo pilot status and several have gone on to make names for themselves in the gliding world. The EUGC is a regular competitor at the inter-university task week and has been represented in the Junior Nationals.
